Over time, the flow rate of unfinished nozzles increases and eventually exceeds specified limits.

Small Holes, Big Benefits
MicroFlow AFM is virtually the same processes as our standard AFM. The main difference is we use a much lower viscosity Media and smaller abrasive particle size. This allows the Media to flow through very small or micro size holes ranging from 50 μm (0.002”) up to 750 μm (.030”) diameter.

The lighter, more fluid MicroFlow Media has sufficient viscosity at low shear rates to remain homogeneous and maintain a uniform distribution of abrasive grain. When the Media enters the restrictive orifices, it's viscosity drops to a value low enough to permit high velocity flow. This acceleration of the Media produces the deburring, radiusing, and surface finishing improvements with a consistent, close-tolerance flow rate. Virtually, any product with a micro-hole, spray orifice can benefit from the process.

MicroFlow AFM is ideally suited to the diesel and automotive industry in the manufacture of fuel systems, particularly fuel spray injector nozzles. The process allows for individual and sets of spray nozzles to be fine-tuned to a very specific, close tolerance size and flow rate. Spray nozzle holes are much smoother (higher quality surface finish) than standard EDM processed holes. They have a defined entrance radius that contributes to flow capacity and fuel spray distribution. Essentially, the process produces a pre-aged spray nozzle with improved fuel atomization for increase engine performance, power, and reduce emissions. MicroFlow AFM is the premier choice of nearly every major diesel fuel system manufacturer.
